Eymards cave

Description

The Eymards cave is located in the town of Lans en Vercors, where is on the right-hand side of the road towards the Val d'Autrans. The discovery of this cave is by exploitation of an old quarry.

At the entrance of the quarry, a flat plot allows easy parking as well as a perfect area for us to put on the caving gears and for a briefing about the outing.

The Eymards cave is a perfect cavity for initiation to vertical speleology and also an excellent start to have more sporty outings such as crossing the Dent de Crolles.

Just after entering, progressively passing the four-legs and crawling, then we arrive in the summit of a room. The first 6-meter abseiling allows us to pick up the skills of using the caving gears and the abseiling technique. After we arrived at the bottom of the room, we walk up to the start of a pretty 30-meter pitch, ‘plein vide’ in spider-like descend will increase our sensations!

(back-up for safety is possible) At the bottom of the pitch, several routes are available depending on the schedule and everyone's wishes.

After climbing, one of the routes leads to the "Mont Blanc room" , where stalagmites, stalagtites, draperies and calcite flows are nicely concretized. A 10-meter abseiling leads to the 30-meter pitch.

Two ways to regain the daylight:

  • a direct ascent of the 30 m pitch in caving technique. (depending on the number of participants and especially their physical conditions).
  • an easier way of ascent but also physical, by a succession of climbing jumps with ropes (handrails).

Then don’t forget the 6m climb to reach the exit!
