Favot cave Journée dans le Vercors

Perched above the Bourne Gorges, Favot Cave opens halfway up the cliffs of the Vercors massif. The adventure begins with the approach hike: a 45-minute walk leading to the impressive entrance portal. Here, your guide will equip you with a harness and caving suit before you venture underground. The exploration starts through the Grand Tunnel, a vast passage of impressive dimensions that leads you deep into the heart of the Vercors.

The morning is dedicated to discovering the Grand Dome, a huge chamber filled with breathtaking underground scenery. Here, you will be introduced to rope techniques, including climbing and abseiling, allowing you to progress safely through the cave. A lunch break is enjoyed in this extraordinary setting, surrounded by stalactites, stalagmites, rimstone pools, and columns—an environment unlike anywhere else on Earth.

In the afternoon, the atmosphere changes as you enter the Bear Pit (Fosse aux Ours), a more technical labyrinth where low passages and natural slides follow one another, providing plenty of fun and excitement. This playful section challenges both your flexibility and sense of direction.

Throughout the day, your guide will reveal the geological and hydrological secrets of the cave: how these galleries were formed, why spectacular formations grow in certain areas, and which underground rivers sculpted this landscape millions of years ago.
